Journey or arriving?
steam trainI was training in Worcester on Saturday and to get there and back from my home out on the East coast took over 12 hours! That’s a long time journeying especially as we’re in the middle of this heatwave and so everythings delayed and we’re all melting. It was hard not to waste the journey just wanting it to be over. Normally I’m a journeying person most of all. I do like arriving - and this weekend was great because I got to stay with an old friend who I hadn’t seen for a long time. It was so lovely to be with someone someone special and share all the journeyings of our lives. I also love homecomings; and certainly after a week of mostly being away I was very thankful to get back home late on Saturday and be with my lovely husband again. But I think I love journeying best of all. Sometimes the mode of transport is special - like when we rode on this beautiful old steam train. This time the train was overheated and slow, I was too hot to work on my laptop all the time so I had to slow down myself and pay attention to the journey. I gazed out of the window and enjoyed the grren fields of the Malvern countryside. I tried to imagine what kind of people lived by the little country stations we passed through. I eavesdroppped on my fellow travellors and played my favourite game of inventing their life from the little clues they revealed. Was the Spanish-speaking young woman really a top flamenco dancer booked to perform at Buckingham Palace? Which are you - a journeyer or an arriver?
